Gilgo Beach killings suspect to face charge in another murder, reports say

Rex Heuermann, the former architect accused in the infamous “Gilgo four” killings, is expected to face another murder charge in a hearing on Thursday, multiple outlets reported.
Tania Lopez, a spokesperson with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, confirmed a court proceeding has been scheduled for Thursday but did not release any details. Heuermann was previously scheduled to appear next in court on June 18.
Word of Heuermann’s hearing comes weeks after authorities searched his home in New York's Massapequa Park again, as well as a wooded area on Long Island where human remains were previously discovered.
"There were a number of investigative steps that were taken,” Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney told reporters Monday at a news conference scheduled for a separate matter. “Thursday you'll see the fruits of that investigation.”
Heuermann, 60, has so far been charged with the murder of four sex workers whose bodies were discovered along a stretch of Gilgo Beach in Long Island. Their bodies were among 11 sets of human remains that were discovered across suburban Long Island in 2010 and 2011.
Last July, Heuermann was arrested on murder charges related to the deaths of Megan Waterman, 22, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, and Amber Costello, 27. In January, he was charged with the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, the last of “Gilgo four.”
Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday’s court proceeding.
In April and early May, the Suffolk County Police Department, the New York Police Department and the New York State Police searched a wooded area in Manorville, where several of the 11 sets of remains were found more than a decade ago. No arrests have been made in connection with remains discovered in Manorville.
In May, the Gilgo Beach Homicide Task Force searched Heuermann's home in Massapequa Park, Lopez said. It’s unclear what, if anything, came from these recent searches.
Heuermann's trial date has not been set.
